Kuala lumpur: Police arrested a local man with 27 prior criminal records on suspicion of beating and slashing his wife with a sharp weapon in Cheras recently. Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Sazalee Adam stated the unemployed suspect, in his 30s, was apprehended by a team from the Cheras district police headquarters (IPD) at the Dang Wangi IPD compound at 4.10 pm on September 8.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident came to authorities' attention following a report from an Ampang Hospital doctor at 2.19 pm on August 29. The report concerned a local woman in her 40s who was treated for suspected assault and slash wounds. The victim was admitted to the orthopaedic ward and filed a police report upon her discharge on September 4.

Sazalee revealed that background checks disclosed the suspect's extensive criminal history, which includes 15 criminal and 12 drug-related offences. An initial urine test conducted on the suspect also returned positive for drugs.

The suspect was remanded for six days until September 14 to assist in investigations before being released on police bail. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of these punishments, upon conviction.
