Kuala lumpur: The government is being urged to implement targeted subsidies more comprehensively, with a specific focus on reviewing the provision of RON95 petrol subsidy to the T20 income group, as advocated by UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Akmal Saleh emphasized that subsidies should be directed towards the B40 and M40 groups, who are more impacted by the rising cost of living. This reallocation is seen as a measure to strengthen the national economy amid global uncertainties. During the National Round Table Consultation (RIMBUN) 2.0 press conference, he highlighted the necessity of re-rationalizing subsidies to ensure they reach those in genuine need, proposing a shift of fuel subsidies from the T20 to the B40 and M40 groups.
The subsidy proposal is part of 25 main resolutions discussed at the RIMBUN 2.0 program, which centers on the issue of economic sovereignty for the country. Akmal Saleh stated that these resolutions would undergo further refinement before being presented to the UMNO Political Bureau and Supreme Working Council. This step is crucial before they are proposed to the Cabinet as part of government policy considerations.
