UMNO Urged to Embrace Moderation and Adapt to Changing Political Climate

Kuala lumpur: UMNO is being called upon to abandon its nostalgic past and re-embrace moderation as part of its core principles to remain relevant in the evolving political landscape. Wanita UMNO Chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad emphasized that the party's historical role in Malaysia's independence is no longer sufficient to win over contemporary voters.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the call for change was made during the UMNO 80th Anniversary Convention at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. Noraini highlighted that modern voters prioritize future-oriented offerings over historical achievements. She advocated for a return to moderation, which she described as UMNO's true strength, to effectively engage in today's emotionally charged public discourse.

UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh echoed this sentiment, urging party leaders to move away from rigid strategies and adapt to current trends to attract youth support. He emphasized the importance of engaging with young people in digital spaces, educational institutions, and workplaces, rather than merely attending events for appearances. Akmal stressed the need for leaders who are genuinely sincere and willing to engage with the youth on a personal level.

Additionally, Puteri UMNO Chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Shamsudin proposed that the party address the rising cost of living by enhancing the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism. She recommended expanding this assistance to private diesel vehicle owners, who are also affected by economic pressures, to ensure comprehensive support for all groups.
