Kuala lumpur: UMNO needs to practise an inclusive approach to politics that does not offend any community, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, if it wants to work with other parties in facing the election, said deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the diverse voter base and the potential concerns arising from a solely Malay-focused political agenda.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad highlighted that the support of non-Malays and political parties in Sabah and Sarawak is essential for government formation, given their significant influence in Malaysia's current political landscape. He reiterated UMNO's commitment to maintaining a centrist and moderate stance, cautioning against any imposition of conservative or radical ideologies from potential collaborators.

Mohamad also expressed the need to revive 'courteous politics' to mitigate the growing disinterest among younger generations due to the prevalence of toxic political discourse. He criticized the current state of national politics, which he described as laden with insults and offensive remarks, often exploiting Malay and Islamic sentiments recklessly.

Citing Sarawak's political culture as a model, Mohamad praised its mature and orderly approach to managing differences through discussion and courtesy. He urged UMNO to draw lessons from Sarawak's example to avoid engaging in divisive and hostile political practices.

The 2026 UMNO General Assembly is currently underway from September 9 to 12 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur, with the assemblies of the party's three wings-Wanita, Youth, and Puteri-scheduled for tomorrow, involving a total of 3,479 delegates.
