UMNO Supreme Council to Consider Reapplications from Hishammuddin and Khairy

Kuala lumpur: The applications of several former UMNO leaders, including Sembrong Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin, are set to be reviewed during the UMNO Supreme Council meeting on April 17. The meeting will deliberate on their requests to rejoin the party, a topic expected to be approached with the spirit of "Rumah Bangsa."

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasized that while the discussion will be held, the outcome of these applications might not be immediately announced. He expressed hope for a favorable decision, aligning with the sentiments of Aidilfitri and Ramadan, reflecting the positive stance of the party president.

Applications are still being accepted, with no set deadline for former leaders or members wishing to return to the party. Besides Hishammuddin, individuals such as Shahril Sufian Hamdan, Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Sharif, and Datuk Maulizan Bujang, whose memberships were suspended for six years, have also sought reentry.

Additionally, former Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar and Khairy Jamaluddin were dismissed due to violations during the 15th General Election (GE15). These suspensions and expulsions were decisions made at the UMNO Supreme Council meeting on January 27, 2023.
