UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Calls for Strong Islamic Values by 100th Anniversary

Kuala lumpur: UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has set a visionary goal for the party, urging it to cultivate a generation of Malays deeply rooted in Islamic values as the party approaches its 100th anniversary in 20 years.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized that the true success of UMNO's efforts is reflected not only in the robustness of its institutions but also in the quality of individuals who are prepared to defend their religion, race, and nation. During his winding-up speech at UMNO's 80th Anniversary Convention, he laid out his vision of Malays with unwavering Islamic spirit, a profound understanding of religious pillars, and a strong sense of identity marked by dignity, high manners, and noble character.

Ahmad Zahid further highlighted his aspirations for Malays to emerge as inventors and innovators who contribute significantly to the nation's progress. He outlined five key priorities for UMNO to focus on over the next two decades. These include strengthening Islamic outreach (dakwah) to protect the faith, uphold syariah, and elevate moral values. He also called for UMNO to become the cornerstone of the nation's political stability, a talent factory producing scholars and experts in various fields, a unifying force for Malay leadership, and a promoter of knowledge and deep religious understanding to shape policy and community understanding.

He emphasized the importance of a strong foundation for UMNO to serve future generations, stressing that it's not merely about winning elections but about nurturing heirs of the nation who embody the spirit and identity of being Malay. Ahmad Zahid acknowledged the strength of UMNO today lies in its grassroots and the unwavering loyalty of its members, who form the backbone of the party's role in nation-building.

However, he also urged the party to bravely confront past mistakes, make necessary improvements, and implement reforms to prevent internal divisions. Ahmad Zahid assured that while the path ahead may not be easy, he is committed to leading with sincerity and a noble spirit, continuing the legacy of struggle that UMNO has carried for over eight decades.
