Kuala lumpur: UMNO will not be bothered by how certain quarters label it, choosing instead to focus on strengthening internal harmony as part of efforts to rebuild the party, said Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He said the party is currently rebuilding its strength from the grassroots level to ensure members' unity becomes the foundation in facing future challenges.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Hasan expressed that it is inconsequential if people label UMNO a 'haunted house' due to the Rumah Bangsa initiative. He emphasized that language reflects one's character and advocated for the use of proper language, particularly during the fasting month. This statement was made to reporters following a breaking of fast event with the leadership of the Rembau UMNO Division Committee.
UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously announced the party's decision to welcome back any former members who were expelled or suspended. This invitation is extended under the Rumah Bangsa initiative without any conditions attached.
Meanwhile, Mohamad, who also represents Rembau as a Member of Parliament, shared that UMNO has initiated discussions for the potential Melaka state election at the end of this year, followed by Johor next year. He mentioned that branches have been instructed to hold meetings earlier in April and May, while divisions will conduct theirs from June to July. Post these meetings, the focus will shift to assisting allies in Melaka and Johor.
He further noted that UMNO's immediate priority is to bolster government efforts aimed at sustaining economic growth and stability, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which may have direct or indirect consequences for Malaysia.
