UKM Rises in Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Kuala Lumpur:Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has climbed to the 301-325 band in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, moving up from the 301-350 band previously.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this advancement marks a significant milestone for UKM, positioning it as the second among public universities in Malaysia. The THE World University Rankings is an international evaluation system that assesses research-oriented institutions across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

For the 2027 edition, UKM showed improvements in Research Environment, International Outlook, and Industry. UKM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Sufian Jusoh emphasized that such international rankings are crucial for understanding the university's position within the global higher education landscape, allowing UKM to compare its achievements with those of other institutions.

This improved ranking is anticipated to bolster UKM's global profile and expand opportunities for collaboration with academic and industry partners. Sufian noted that while rankings are not the sole measure of a university's success, UKM is dedicated to making significant academic contributions and leveraging its expertise for societal and national benefit.

The vice-chancellor also highlighted that this achievement reflects the continuous efforts by the UKM community to enhance the university's performance in research, teaching, international networking, and industry relations. The advancement aligns with the goals of TEKAD57, UKM's strategic framework for 2026-2030, which aims to strengthen the university's capabilities across various domains.
