UiTM Urged to Launch Quantum Department to Keep Up with Advancements

Kuala Lumpur:Universiti Teknologi MARA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to establish a Quantum Department by next year. The initiative aims to ensure Malaysia remains competitive in the rapidly evolving field of quantum technology.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ahmad Zahid emphasized the importance of developing local expertise in quantum technology, highlighting its potential to attract students and produce quantum experts in less than a decade. He noted that while artificial intelligence is beneficial and well-implemented, quantum technology represents the forefront of technological advancement.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Rural and Regional Development Minister, made these remarks during the 'Wacana Semarak Patriotisme: Seminar Ilmuwan Islam' event at UiTM's Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor. He underscored the significance of quantum mechanics, which leverages properties such as superposition and entanglement to process information at remarkable speeds.

Additionally, Dr Ahmad Zahid announced that his ministry would allocate RM500,000 to UiTM. This funding will support various programs, including the TVET UiTM Dihatiku training and certification initiative, UTAMA PLUS UiTM AI Certified, and the development of the proposed Quantum Department.
