Kuala lumpur: National swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean splashed his way to two gold medals for UCSI University on the opening day of the swimming competition at the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Sports Games (SUKIPT) today. The 24-year-old delivered the first gold medal by clocking 2 minutes 05.92 seconds in the men's 200 metres backstroke event at the Universiti Malaya Swimming Pool here.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Monash University's Joel Ling Thai Yu took silver with a time of 2:16.28, while Muhammad Arif Zulfikry settled for bronze at 2:19.65. Hoe Yean doubled his gold medal tally by helping the UCSI University quartet clock 8:16.64 to win the 4x200m freestyle relay event. Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) took silver in 8:39.91, and Taylor's College claimed bronze with a time of 8:41.90.

"This tournament is a really good preparation for the Asian Games because we are leaving for the Asiad on September 17. It's also a very good preparation for the ASEAN University Games (AUG) because this competition serves as a selection for the AUG as well," Hoe Yean stated when met after his success at the pool. Meanwhile, Hoe Yean hopes he will be able to continue his momentum by delivering more medals for UCSI University in the days to come.
