Ranau: Two weak earthquakes of magnitude 2.9 shook Ranau, Sabah, and Mambong, Sarawak, within 12 hours on Tuesday. Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip reported that the earthquake in Ranau was detected at a depth of 10 kilometers at 10:36 am.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at latitude 6.07° North and longitude 116.58° East. The tremors were also felt in several areas around Kundasang, Ranau, and Kota Belud, Sabah. Mohd Hisham stated that on the same day, another weak earthquake with a similar magnitude and a depth of 10 km was detected in Mambong at 10:33 pm.
The earthquake in Mambong was centered at latitude 1.32° North and longitude 110.39° East, with tremors also experienced in several areas around Samarahan and Serian, Sarawak. Despite the occurrences, Mohd Hisham advised the public not to worry, as both incidents were categorized as weak magnitude earthquakes.
