Two Senior Malaysian Armed Forces Officers Anticipated to Face Charges Next Week

Kuala lumpur: Two senior officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), both holding the title 'Datuk', are anticipated to face charges next week. This development was confirmed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, who noted that the charges are contingent upon the approval of Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azam Baki stated at a press conference during the 'Cakna Rasuah: SPRM Bersama Media Zon Timur' program that the MACC is awaiting the Attorney-General's decision before proceeding with the charges. He highlighted the priority of addressing misconduct among high-ranking officers as part of their investigative process.

The MACC has proposed charges against these senior officers, with a focus on addressing corruption at the highest levels before extending the probe to other parties. Azam expressed confidence that the Attorney-General's decision would be forthcoming, given the case's public significance and scrutiny. He emphasized the need for a prompt resolution to avoid prolonged uncertainty.

Earlier reports from Bernama revealed that former army chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan was charged with four counts of receiving unlawful proceeds, amounting to over RM2.12 million, to which he pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Under Op Parasit, the MACC detained a senior officer and his two wives in January in connection with army project procurements. The investigation, which began in October 2025, involves sensitive details concerning high-ranking officers and public interest issues.

In December 2025, MACC officers initiated preliminary investigations at the Ministry of Defence regarding several army projects dating back to 2023. Recently, media reports indicated the detention of 23 individuals, including high-ranking officers, as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption, abuse of power, and misuse of public funds related to procurement activities for the Armed Forces Welfare Fund and the Ministry of Defence.
