Kuala lumpur: Two significant projects valued at RM414 million to upgrade former logging roads in Baram and Julau, Sarawak, have moved into the pre-qualification open tender stage, as informed to the Dewan Negara today by Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang. The projects, approved for the year 2024, have been allocated RM231 million for Baram and RM183 million for Julau, with the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) designated as the implementing agency.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the tender for the Lapok to Long Aya route upgrading project (Phase 1: Lapok to Long Teran) in Baram, Miri, concluded on May 19, 2026, and is currently under the first-stage tender evaluation by JKR. This information was provided during the question-and-answer session in response to a query from Senator Abun Sui Anyit on the allocation, location, and status of rural logging road upgrading projects in Sarawak, focusing on areas such as Belaga, Hulu Rajang, and Baram, as of June this year.

Rubiah further elaborated that the Nanga Meluan to Nanga Maong road upgrading project in Julau, Sarikei, is presently in the second stage of the pre-qualification open tender process, with the invitation period spanning from June 27 to September 15.
