Kota kinabalu: Two development projects involving the upgrading and replacement of broadcasting equipment and the air-conditioning (chiller) system at the Communications Ministry Integrated Complex here are being implemented to improve operational capabilities and staff comfort.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated that the first project involves replacing broadcasting equipment with new equipment capable of supporting digital and 4K high-definition broadcasts. This also includes providing supporting equipment such as lighting and backdrops to enhance the quality of broadcast content production. The progress on the studio equipment replacement currently stands at about 10 percent and is expected to be completed in 2028.
The second project focuses on replacing four chiller units, or large-capacity air-conditioning systems, to ensure a more comfortable and safe working environment. This initiative also considers the health and well-being of staff at the complex. Fahmi mentioned that the tender process for the chiller replacement project would begin at the end of this month, with the equipment expected to arrive in the middle of next year. Installation work, anticipated to take 24 months, will follow.
Fahmi emphasized the importance of adhering to the stipulated schedule and approved costs to prevent delays or significant cost escalations. To ensure smooth execution, the implementation of both projects will be closely monitored, ensuring compliance with the planned timeline and budget without disrupting the operations of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) or other departments at the complex.
He further noted that monitoring of the projects would involve the state RTM director and officers to prevent any delays or cost increases. Earlier, Fahmi was briefed on the replacement of studio broadcasting equipment by VME Broadcast Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Azhar Ab Rahman, and on the upgrading of the air-conditioning system by Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) senior assistant director Band Sabin and Sabah JKR mechanical engineer Ranel Pierre J Muyau.
