Nay Pyi Taw: Two Royal Malaysian Airforce (RMAF) A400M aircraft carrying the Special Malaysian Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART), a National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) Team, as well as search and rescue equipment, arrived at the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport in Myanmar today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, NADMA reported that the first aircraft landed at 11:36 am, while the second touched down at 2 pm. Both flights departed from the RMAF Subang Air Base at 9:30 am and 10 am, respectively.
Upon arrival, the teams are set to proceed to the operation area in the Sagaing Division via a land route, which is expected to take approximately eight hours. The SMART contingent, led by Commander Mohamad Hafiezul Abdul Halim, consists of 50 members, including 16 armed forces personnel, 13 police officers, and 21 fire and rescue department personnel.
As of yesterday, the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar has resulted in nearly 2,000 fatalities, with thousands more injured and at least hundreds reported missing.
