Taman johor: Two married couples were arrested yesterday to assist in investigations after a video showing domestic helpers being assaulted in Taman Johor near Tampoi went viral on social media. Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad detailed that the couples, aged between 30 and 34, were apprehended at a residence in the area at around 7.30 pm by personnel from the Johor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Johor Bahru Utara district police headquarters.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the couples were cohabiting in the same house, with the female suspects identified as siblings. The assault allegedly involved three domestic helpers and is suspected to have occurred on July 26 of the previous year. The video, recorded by one of the victims, only surfaced on social media recently. The motive behind the incident remains under investigation, as stated during a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters.

The three domestic helpers, believed to be in their 20s, are suspected to have fled but are believed to still be within the country. In the course of the investigation, police seized mobile phones, clothing belonging to the suspects, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, and the passports of the two domestic helpers involved.

All four suspects tested negative for drugs and have no prior criminal records. They have been remanded for four days, starting today. The case is being investigated under several sections of the Penal Code, including Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 for criminal intimidation, Section 354 for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, along with Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, and Section 12(1)(f) of the Passports Act.

The video clips that went viral depicted a troubling scene of individuals assaulting a female domestic helper seated on a sofa inside a house.
