Tun Abdullah Remembered for His Lifelong Dedication to Public Service

Kuala Lumpur: Former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi dedicated his life to serving the people, said his former political secretary, Datuk Othman Desa. He noted that the commitment of the fifth Prime Minister was driven by his strong love for the people of this country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Othman shared that Abdullah was a simple person whose nature caused the people to grieve his demise. Othman also highlighted that Abdullah disliked swearing and maintained a calm demeanor. He admired the big-hearted nature of his former employer, describing Abdullah as magnanimous, especially in his decision to resign from the post of Prime Minister in 2009, demonstrating his generous nature for the interest of the country and people.

Meanwhile, former Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang noted that Abdullah’s friendly nature was greatly appreciated by media practitioners. Azman recalled covering Abdullah’s events and official visits abroad, stating that the late Prime Minister’s informal interactions made journalists more comfortable.

According to Azman, Abdullah would often start his press conferences by inquiring about the well-being of media practitioners. If journalists had not eaten, Abdullah would ensure they were taken out for a meal, reflecting his humility despite holding the high office of Prime Minister.

Abdullah, affectionately known as “Pak Lah,” passed away at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 7.10 pm last night. He will be buried according to a State Funeral today.
