Kuala Lumpur: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has described Tun Abdullah Badawi as a leader who was humble, calm, and always prioritized the welfare of the people and nation. Mohamed Khaled, who served under the administration of Tun Abdullah from 2005 to 2009, said he knew the former prime minister in his personal and official capacities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled spoke highly of Tun Abdullah’s patience, virtue, and non-confrontational nature, highlighting his commitment to prioritizing the country’s interests. “Tun Abdullah was a very patient, virtuous and non-confrontational person. He also always put the interest of the country, the people and the party above all else,” Mohamed Khaled stated at a media conference following the Ministry of Defence Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. He expressed sadness and grief over the passing of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, emphasizing that Tun Abdullah’s sacrifices and contributions will always be remembered by Malaysians.
Mohamed Khaled praised Tun Abdullah’s decision to step down from office gracefully, acknowledging his leadership and support throughout his tenure as Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and later as Minister of Higher Education. Mohamed Khaled recalled, “During that period, he always supported my efforts, especially in the fight for education and to uphold the Bumiputera agenda.”
Tun Abdullah, aged 85, passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 7.10 pm yesterday. He received full state funeral honors and was laid to rest at the Heroes’ Mausoleum near Masjid Negara (National Mosque) at 2.30 pm today.
