Tourism Sector Must Focus On East Asian, Regional Markets – Perak Exco

Taiping: The national tourism sector must strategise by focusing on the East Asian market and regional countries to address the impacts of the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said this is crucial to ensure the tourism industry remains resilient in tackling global uncertainties.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the conflict has impacted tourism industries worldwide, including disrupting the international flight network. Loh Sze Yee explained that crises often result in the cancellation of many flights due to fuel constraints and safety concerns, forcing airline companies to use longer routes, thereby increasing costs and travel distances. He shared these insights with reporters after officiating the interior refurbishment of the Tourist Interpretation Centre and launching 'Jejak Kedamaian Taiping' (Taiping Peace Trail) at the Taiping Clock Tower.

Loh highlighted Malaysia's advantageous position due to its stability and sufficient energy supply. He mentioned that while some countries are experiencing fuel price hikes and supply shortages, Malaysia continues to maintain stable prices and sufficient supply, making it an attractive destination for tourists. He emphasized that tourists typically prefer stable and safe destinations, and Malaysia should capitalize on this opportunity to attract tourists from affected nations, including high-earning visitors seeking alternative holiday spots.

Furthermore, Loh pointed out that the concept of remote working allows tourists to temporarily reside in Malaysia during the crisis period. He also noted that the domestic tourism sector is expected to thrive, with more people opting for domestic holidays instead of international travel.
