Tourism Perak: Tourism Perak Management Berhad and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement the Roar of Legacy campaign, an initiative to conserve the Malayan Tiger, including strengthening ecotourism awareness in Perak. State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee stated that the campaign aimed to raise awareness on the importance of conserving the iconic species.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative focuses not only on conservation efforts but also on integrating these efforts with the development of the tourism sector. Steps to be taken include introducing conservation-based tourism programmes, creating more environmental education activities, and encouraging responsible tourism practices among tourists and industry operators.
At the MoU ceremony, Tourism Perak was represented by its chief executive officer, Nurmalis Musa, while WWF Malaysia was represented by its interim chief executive officer, Nik Izuan Nik Mohammed, and was witnessed by Loh. Loh mentioned that the campaign aligns with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 direction, which integrates conservation into the tourism industry to ensure that natural treasures continue to be a significant tourism asset.
Various awareness and promotional programmes will be implemented throughout the campaign, including exposure on state tourism social media platforms and activities with the local community. Loh emphasized that this collaboration presents an opportunity to enhance Perak’s appeal as a major destination for sustainable tourism, making the state a model for balancing tourism development and nature conservation.
