TNB Junior Hockey League Attracts Record 63 Teams

Kuala lumpur: The 2025 TNB Malaysian Junior Hockey League (TNB MJHL) has attracted a record number of 63 teams for the Division 1 and 2 categories. Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Competitions Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Anil Sandhu said this number surpassed last year’s record-setting 49-team turnout for TNB MJHL, which was started in 2016.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, there are several factors contributing to this increase. A growing interest among parents and the desire of young players and state teams to showcase their new talent have played a significant role. Additionally, development at the state level has been a driving force behind this surge in participation. Dr Anil Sandhu expressed optimism, noting the potential to witness more new players in action, which he believes will benefit the local hockey scene.

A total of 213 matches will be played throughout the tournament, which will run from July 7 to August 23. In Division 1, 10 boys’ teams will compete for the championship, with matches scheduled at seven venues, including the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium in Terengganu and the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium in Kuantan, starting on July 19.

In Division 2, 30 boys’ teams have been divided into two zones. The Central Zone matches will take place at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, while the Northern Zone matches will be held at the Bertam Hockey Stadium in Penang, beginning on July 23. For the girls’ category, 23 teams will compete with all matches set to occur at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil starting on Monday.
