Kuala lumpur: TikTok Malaysia has launched a new in-app knowledge hub, #ThinkTwice, aimed at fortifying scam prevention efforts across the nation. This hub is now accessible in multiple languages, including English, Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin, and Tamil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative seeks to disseminate awareness among millions of users through a comprehensive strategy in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), and other essential government entities. TikTok Malaysia’s Head of Public Policy, Firdaus Fadzil, emphasized that ensuring online safety is a collective responsibility requiring sustained collaboration among various societal segments.
The statement highlights TikTok’s digital literacy initiative, which encourages users to pause, prevent, and protect themselves online. Pausing involves taking a moment to reflect and avoid activities breaching TikTok’s Community Guidelines and local laws. Prevention entails using TikTok’s safety features and tools provided by local authorities to identify warning signs. Protection mobilizes the community to maintain safety by reporting potentially violating activities.
The statement further includes remarks from Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, who noted that many scams, such as investment scams, phishing, phone scams, job scams, love scams, and loan scams, are prevalent in Malaysia and can be prevented. He emphasized the availability of tools like PDRM’s Semak Mule portal to help the public detect these threats, underscoring the importance of both public and private sector collaboration in strengthening the nation’s scam prevention framework. TikTok’s role in enhancing public awareness was acknowledged as timely and valuable.
Meanwhile, MCMC reiterated that awareness and education are vital defenses against scams. They stressed that advanced tools and robust policies are essential, but the public’s ability to recognize and reject fraudulent tactics is crucial for building collective resilience. MCMC expressed satisfaction in partnering with TikTok to cultivate a more informed and vigilant community. The collaboration aims to extend the reach of Sebenarnya.my, MCMC’s official verification portal, and AIFA, an AI-powered fact-checking assistant that aids users in verifying information instantly and confidently.
The #ThinkTwice knowledge hub is built on four main pillars of information: scam prevention tips using publicly available tools from key government agencies, TikTok’s Community Guidelines, TikTok’s safety features, and helplines to local authorities.
