KOTA BHARU: Three traders faced fines of RM10,000 each in the Sessions Court for possessing controlled items without the necessary licenses.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Judge Zulkifli Abllah imposed the fines on Zamri Mat Daud, 51, Muhammad Baharuddin Sukri, 3, and Muhammad Affizan Fauzi, 30, following their guilty pleas. The charges involved separate incidents of possessing cooking oil and diesel unlawfully. Zamri was apprehended with 408 kilograms of packet cooking oil at Pengkalan Haram Paija, Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat, on June 17, 2023, at 7:30 am.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Baharuddin was found with 1,000.26 liters of diesel at Pasaraya Salamku Pasir Pekan, along Jalan Pasir Pekan-Kutan, Tumpat, on November 16, 2023, at 6:55 am. Muhammad Affizan faced charges for a similar offense, involving 1,328.535 liters of diesel at Lorong Maut Kampung Neting Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat, on November 11, 2023, at 8 pm. These actions breached Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 and resulted in charges under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
The prosecuting officers, Muhammadi Iman Masjuri and Wan Mohd Razif Wan Ghazali, from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, led the prosecution, while defense lawyers Muhammad Zulfaqar Al Basysyar Saharuddin and Mohd Taufikrullah Rusli represented the accused.
