Three Senators Sworn In During Senate Ceremony

Kuala lumpur: Three senators, including a new appointee, took the oath of office before Senate President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the newly appointed senator is Datuk Seri Profesor Dr Noor Inayah Ya'akub, the chief executive officer and vice-chancellor of International University of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (UniMAIWP). She was elected by the Penang State Legislative Assembly and will serve a three-year term from May 14, 2026, until May 13, 2029. The other two senators, Hussin Ismail and Dr RA Lingeshwaran, were reappointed after being re-elected by the Terengganu and Penang State Legislative Assemblies, respectively.

Awang Bemee, in his speech, stated that Dr Noor Inayah and Dr Lingeshwaran would both serve their terms concurrently, while Hussin Ismail's term, which began on April 23, will conclude on April 22, 2029. He extended his congratulations to all sworn-in senators and expressed hope that they would bring their experience and expertise to the Senate.

Awang Bemee emphasized the importance of active participation in debates, raising quality questions, and contributing effectively in Senate Select Committees for the progress of the nation. He reminded the senators that the Senate is not only a body for examining and approving bills but also a platform for mature and constructive debates.

According to the Parliamentary calendar, the Senate sitting for the Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled for 10 days starting from July 20.
