Bukit mertajam: Firefighters rescued three people, including an 82-year-old man, from a fire that damaged five houses in Jalan Paya, Kampung Tanah Liat here today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations and fire division assistant director John Sagun Francis said the other two victims were a 47-year-old woman and a four-year-old girl, all of whom were safe. He stated that the department received an emergency call at 12.32 pm, regarding the fire that engulfed two double-storey and three single-storey houses.

The fire was completely extinguished by 1.30 pm, with 50 firefighters from four fire stations responding to the emergency, aided by seven Volunteer Fire Brigades and the police. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
