Three Remanded Over RM2.6 Million Labuan MAIWP Contract Probe

Labuan: A senior assistant engineer at the Labuan Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), along with two company owners, has been remanded for six days to assist with investigations into an alleged abuse of power involving a facilities management and maintenance contract valued at approximately RM2.6 million.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Magistrate Dr Melissa Chia issued the remand order, which is effective from today until May 12, following a request by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). The senior assistant engineer is accused of misusing his position by using a main contractor's license to appoint subcontractor companies connected to his family members to execute facilities management and maintenance tasks at Kompleks Darul Kifayah MAIWP.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which pertains to the misuse of office or position for personal gain. The three individuals were arrested on May 5 after providing their statements at the MACC office in Labuan.
