Kuala perlis: Three men were each fined RM1,000 and ordered to perform eight hours of community service by the Sessions Court here today for littering by discarding cigarette butts in a public place. Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid presided over the case of Idzham Husin, 43, Ahmad Nasri Mohammad Yusof, 47, both civil servants, and backhoe driver Putra Che Ani, 59, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the judge sentenced each of the men to a RM1,000 fine, with a default sentence of 30 days in jail, and mandated them to complete the community service within six months. The charges were related to incidents where the men discarded cigarette butts in non-designated areas at Dataran Sena Indah, Jeti Kuala Perlis, and in front of a bank on January 1, 2, and 15.
The charges were framed under Section 77A (1) of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672). This section provides for a maximum fine of RM2,000 and a community service order not exceeding 12 hours in total within six months.
The prosecution team comprised officers from the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), including Nur Idayu Syazwani Mohd Arif, Siti Adora Rahtimin, Mohd Iqram Ismail, and Mohd Fazli Janna. Notably, all three defendants were unrepresented in this first case of its kind in Perlis.
