Teluk Intan: Three men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with trafficking over 1.9 kilogrammes of drugs early this year. However, no plea was recorded from Mohamad Hafis Abu Bakar, 39, Muhamad Aliff Saidin, 34, and Muhammad Aiman Afiq Muhamad Yusri, 2, after the charge was read out to them before Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the three men were jointly charged with trafficking 1,918 grammes of methamphetamine in the parking area of a supermarket in Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan in the Hilir Perak district at about 2.50 pm last January 6. They are charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. Upon conviction, they face the death penalty or imprisonment for life and if not sentenced to death, they shall be punished with not less than 15 strokes of the cane.

The court did not allow bail and set March 19 for mention. The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan, while the three accused were unrepresented.
