Three Individuals Questioned by MCMC Over False Racial Social Media Post

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recorded the statements of three more individuals yesterday following a false, racially charged post on social media linked to the recent state-level National Day celebration in Ipoh, Perak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC stated that the post falsely claimed that a Chinese woman was involved in the incident. The misinformation could potentially incite racial tensions and negative perceptions within the community.

The statements were recorded at three different police stations: Kuala Nerang Police Station in Kedah, Beserah Police Station in Kuantan, and the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Penang.

As part of the investigation, MCMC seized three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and one memory card for digital forensic analysis. The investigations are being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which imposes a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

MCMC has reminded the public to always verify the authenticity of information before posting or sharing content on social media.
