Johor bahru: Police have detained three individuals, including a 17-year-old teenager, to assist in an investigation into the dissemination of content on the TikTok application containing elements of incitement, defamation, and insults against Islam, the Johor royal institution, and the Johor police chief.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that the two women and one man, aged between 17 and 49, were arrested in Taman Saujana early this morning. The arrests followed a report from a local man who discovered a video uploaded by the account 'ratunurputribalqis', allegedly containing defamatory statements last Sunday.
The contentious post claimed that the Sultan of Johor and the Tengku Mahkota Johor, as well as the Prime Minister, sought advice from the account owner in preparing speech texts. It further alleged that the Sultan of Johor retained the account owner's identification documents for purposes related to teachings she promoted. Additional accusations included misconduct and corruption by the Johor State Islamic Religious Department and changes to obligatory and voluntary prayer practices.
Ab Rahaman confirmed that all suspects had no prior records and tested negative in initial urine screenings. Several items were seized for the investigation, and the Magistrate's Court has remanded the suspects for four days. The case is being investigated under multiple legal provisions, including the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
In a related development, Johor Bahru South District Police Chief ACP Raub Selamat disclosed that seized items included personal belongings and religious artifacts to aid the investigation. Meanwhile, Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid reiterated the commitment to take strict action against those involved in spreading deviant teachings, referencing misleading video clips circulating on social media.
