Putrajaya: Several regions in Malaysia are predicted to experience hazy weather conditions and reduced visibility between August 27 and 31. This forecast comes from a weather model monitored by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia's director-general, Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, attributed the potential haze to southwest monsoon winds and a high number of hotspots in southern Sumatra and western Kalimantan. The MyCMAQ haze concentration model indicates that Sarawak could be the most affected, with districts potentially experiencing Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy levels of haze on August 30 and 31.

Dr. Mohd Hisham also stated that Sabah is expected to experience hazy conditions starting Saturday, and high haze concentrations may impact regions including Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya until August 31. MetMalaysia is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates based on new weather changes and atmospheric conditions.

Earlier, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil mentioned that the government is considering adjustments to the National Day celebration on August 31 due to the haze conditions. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to pray for the situation to remain manageable ahead of the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, as government preparations continue for these events.
