Kuala Lumpur: The passing of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi marks a profound loss to the nation of a leader who embodied integrity, humility, and wisdom, said Alliance for a Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lee praised Tun Abdullah, who is fondly known as Pak Lah, for his leadership during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2003 to 2009. He championed national unity, good governance, and socio-economic development through his visionary Islam Hadhari framework, which emphasised progressive and inclusive values.
‘His gentle demeanor and dedication to public service earned him immense respect, leaving an indelible mark on Malaysia’s political and social landscape,’ said Lee. ‘He will be remembered for his soft-spoken yet firm leadership and his efforts to promote good governance, anti-corruption reforms, and religious moderation. His tenure was marked by a vision of a progressive, inclusive Malaysia rooted in compassion, integrity, and mutual respect.’
According to Lee, Tun Abdullah was a strong advocate for civil service and democratic values, fostering open dialogue and discourse. His calm yet firm leadership guided the nation through critical times, always prioritising unity and the people’s welfare.
‘We extend our deepest condolences to Tun Jeanne Abdullah and the family. May they find strength and peace during this difficult time. Malaysia has lost a true son of the soil, but his legacy will live on in the values he upheld and the nation he served so faithfully,’ Lee added.
