Pokok sena: Thai skateboarders won both the Men’s Street and Women’s Street categories to steal the show on the final day of the four-day Skate Tour ASEAN (STA) Skateboarding League Championships at the Pokok Sena Skatepark here tonight.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Thai skateboarders swept to a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s category, with 21-year-old Attapon Sampaokong emerging champion with 17.22 points, followed by 11-year-old Kirin Petkiree, just 0.2 points behind, and 25-year-old Chayakorn Wongwatanasopon with 16.86 points.
The women’s category saw two Thai youngsters excelling, with 10-year-old Chakao Unomphea coming out tops with 14.01 points and 14-year-old Vareeraya Sukasem taking second spot with 11.37 points. Indonesia’s 12-year-old Quinara Ayra Darmawan came in third with 11.10 points.
Attapon, better known as Cube, expressed his excitement and happiness at finishing first, as he did not have high expectations coming into the championships. He stated that the tournament allowed him to rectify
weaknesses and assess the capabilities of challengers from the region in preparation for the SEA Games in Thailand in December.
Meanwhile, national skateboarder Nur Tia Adelisa Tajul Fuad, better known as Chicha, drew attention by finishing second in the Women’s Park event with 4.73 points. The 10-year-old Chicha mentioned that she learned new techniques and skills from other regional skateboarders at the tournament. She also plans to join several other international meets to continue representing her country.
Singapore’s Tina Wan YJ claimed victory in the Women’s Park event with 5.07 points, while Malaysia’s Adelia Haziqah Amirul Hisyam, 12, secured third place with 3.61 points.
The inaugural edition of the STA attracted the participation of 74 skaters from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and 42 from Malaysia, competing in the four main categories: Men’s Street, Women’s Street, Men’s Park, and Women’s Park.
