TH RCI: Jamil Khir To Be Charged In KL Sessions Court Tomorrow

Kuala lumpur: Former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom is set to be charged in the Sessions Court here tomorrow. The charges relate to issues concerning the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jamil Khir is scheduled to appear at Criminal Sessions Court 8 before Judge Rosli Ahmad at 9 am. On September 10, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that the agency recommended three charges against the former minister under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which pertains to dishonest misappropriation of property.

Jamil Khir was released on bail on September 8 after a seven-day remand that began on September 2. He was reported to have been arrested at 4:30 pm on September 2 after presenting himself at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya to provide a statement for the investigation into the TH RCI report.

The TH RCI report, released to the public on July 29, highlighted several weaknesses in TH's management and operations between 2014 and 2020. It also listed problematic investments that necessitated a forensic audit. The report indicated the presence of suspicious transactions and the concealment of information.
