Terengganu Launches 5G IP Structure Project To Drive Digital, Green Urban Transformation

Terengganu: The 5G Intelligent Pole (IP) Structure Pilot Project, launched today, is set to modernise urban infrastructure in Terengganu through the integration of smart technology and advanced digital connectivity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the pilot initiative is a collaboration between the Terengganu government and Colla Connecting Edge Sdn Bhd. It forms part of the Smart Digital Infrastructure agenda under the Terengganu Smart City Blueprint 2040. State Digital Economy, New Income, Trade, Industry and Green Technology Committee chairman Mohd Nurkhuzaini Ab Rahman stated that the project aligns with the state's aspiration to position Terengganu as a green technology hub and a sustainable smart city.

'The implementation of the Smart Pole Structure Pilot Project is expected to serve as a catalyst for Terengganu's digital transformation and mark a new chapter in the development of smarter, safer and more sustainable urban infrastructure,' he said at the launch of the pilot project at Pasar Kedai Payang.

Meanwhile, Colla Connecting Edge Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk Amirul Rahman Abdul Rahim highlighted that the IP structure transcends conventional street lighting by functioning as a digital integration hub to support the broader smart city ecosystem. "Under this pilot project, selected existing lamp posts are upgraded into smart assets equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, 5G connectivity and a centralised monitoring system," he explained.

He further elaborated that the Smart Pole features digital advertising displays to disseminate official information from the local authority (PBT), as well as weather sensors and a real-time air pollution detection system. Additionally, these poles are equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, further supporting sustainable mobility initiatives in the state.
