Terengganu Hit By Third Wave Flood

Terengganu: The third wave of flood hit Terengganu today, forcing 103 people from 24 families in three districts to be evacuated to three relief centres (PPS) this evening.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee (JBPN) Secretariat reported that the Kuala Terengganu district recorded 61 victims, involving 14 families, at the PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Chendering. In the Dungun district, 13 victims from two families are at the PPS at Dewan Sivik Kampung Seberang Pintasan. In the Kuala Nerus district, 29 victims from eight families are being accommodated at the PPS at SK Kompleks Mengabang Telipot.

The PPS were opened this evening following continuous heavy rain since early morning. Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said several main roads in Kuala Terengganu City are closed due to flash floods. They are Jalan Sultan Omar, Jalan Kamaruddin, Jalan Sultan Ismail heading to Bulatan Ladang, and Jalan Kamarudin heading to Pengandang Akar.

A check at https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my/ indicated that the water level at two stations, namely Sungai Telemong in Kuala Ping (F1) and Sungai Tersat in Sekayu (F1), Hulu Terengganu, has exceeded the warning level. Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an alert warning of continuous rain in four states starting yesterday.

They are the whole of Terengganu, and in Kelantan, it involves Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh from Dec 25 to 28. The same weather condition is expected in Pahang (Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi) from Dec 26 to 29.
