Kuala lumpur: Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will conclude his tenure on December 2, 2025. His departure from the ministry coincides with the completion of his service in the Dewan Negara, the Malaysian Senate.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul announced at a press conference detailing MITI’s report card for the third quarter of 2025 that his last day as a minister is set for December 2. He explained that legal requirements necessitate membership in either the Dewan Negara or Dewan Rakyat to serve as a minister, making it impossible for him to continue in his role after his senatorial term ends.
Tengku Zafrul expressed his readiness to support his successor during the transition phase. However, when questioned about remaining in an advisory capacity, he clarified that no discussions have taken place on the matter so far. He mentioned that he has communicated his willingness to continue assisting to the Prime Minister, awaiting a decision on his potential future role.
Having served two terms as a senator since 2020, Tengku Zafrul will complete his six-year tenure in the Dewan Negara on the same date he steps down from his ministerial position.
