Tengku Zafrul A Boost To BAM’s Olympic Gold Bid – Jahaberdeen

Kuala Lumpur: The election of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz as the new president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is considered a positive step towards helping the national body achieve its aspiration of winning an Olympic gold medal, as stated by BAM deputy president II, Datuk Seri Dr Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos. Despite the strong legacy left by former president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, Jahaberdeen believes Tengku Zafrul can elevate the association further.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jahaberdeen expressed confidence in Tengku Zafrul’s ability to make a significant impact, citing his demonstrated interest in the role. “Norza had taken BAM to a certain level but I am confident that Tengku Zafrul, who has shown great interest, can make a difference,” Jahaberdeen remarked. He further noted that Tengku Zafrul has requested a period of 100 days to learn and assess the needs of BAM, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with BAM’s management to achieve the Olympic dream.

Jahaberdeen also highlighted Tengku Zafrul’s sincerity and integrity, describing him as a leader who keeps his promises. “Tengku Zafrul is an honest person and he doesn’t make false promises. He has been frank in saying he needs 100 days to understand BAM and to hold discussions with the top management,” he added.

Tengku Zafrul, who also serves as the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, was elected unopposed as BAM’s 13th president during its annual general meeting. The former acting president, Datuk V. Subramaniam, was re-elected as deputy president I, while Jahaberdeen retained his position as deputy president II.
