Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Warns Of Impact Of Global Geopolitical Tensions

Shah alam: The Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, has urged the public to draw lessons from ongoing global geopolitical tensions, warning that they not only claim lives but could also affect economic stability, socio-political conditions, and global well-being. Expressing concern over the situation, she called on the public to stay alert to current developments, understand national priorities, and be prepared to face uncertainties with wisdom and responsibility.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin addressed these concerns at the 104th UiTM Convocation Ceremony (first session) at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor. She urged all Malaysians to pray for protection against the adverse effects of these conflicts. During the ceremony, she conferred postgraduate degrees on 290 graduates at the doctoral and clinical specialist master's levels, with UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib@Sahibuddin also in attendance.

Amid rapid technological change and shifts in the global economic landscape, she advised graduates to remain adaptable, think critically, and stay competitive while upholding values such as integrity, good conduct, and responsibility. She expressed appreciation to UiTM for its role in developing the nation's talent and emphasized the institution's mandate to safeguard the rights of Malays, Orang Asli, and natives of Sabah and Sarawak as provided in the Constitution.

Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin stressed the importance of UiTM's foundational purpose and rejected any attempts to alter or undermine it. She congratulated former Sabah state secretary Datuk Kee Mustafa on his appointment as UiTM pro-chancellor, expressing hope for his contributions to the university's excellence.

Her Royal Highness also congratulated 25,336 graduates on completing their studies and thanked parents and families for their support. She expressed hope that graduates would uphold the university's reputation as its ambassadors, recognizing that their achievements mark the beginning of greater challenges ahead.

She concluded by emphasizing the need for UiTM to continue producing knowledgeable, ethical, and patriotic graduates who can contribute to the nation's future. She highlighted the importance of fostering mutual respect across religions and cultures in preserving unity and well-being.

The 104th UiTM Convocation Ceremony runs from today until May 23, 2026.
