Kuala lumpur: Gua Tempurung, one of Perak's notable tourism sites, is set to transform into an international eco-adventure hub following a 21-year concession agreement signed between Majuperak Holdings Berhad (MHB) and the Kampar District Council (MDK). MHB chairman Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak announced that the agreement covers 32.1 hectares to enable a more structured, safe, and sustainable management and development of the ecotourism site.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this initiative is a strategic effort by the state government to enhance Perak's standing as a prime tourism destination at both the domestic and international levels. "The development of Gua Tempurung aims to balance the preservation of its geological heritage and cave ecosystem with economic activities," Redza stated. The plan will employ an 'inside-outside' approach, preserving the cave's interior while activating external areas in a controlled manner. Planned external developments include adventure activities such as a mountain bike circuit, world-class rock climbing facilities adhering to International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) standards, luxury glamping, and international-standard tourism support facilities.
The signing ceremony of the concession agreement took place at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building and was witnessed by dignitaries including Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, MHB group CEO Muhammad Yazurin Sallij Muhammad Yasin, and MDK president Ahmad Zuqairy Alias. MHB's CEO, Muhammad Yazurin Sallij, outlined that the development will proceed in phases, guided by a master plan with an initial focus on site safety. The first phase will involve preparing a master plan and conducting safety studies and assessments by accredited consultants.
Muhammad Yazurin revealed that a development concept akin to Tasik Cermin will be adopted, positioning Gua Tempurung as the main icon while organizing tourism activities in the cave's external areas to draw visitors. A joint committee with MDK and other stakeholders will be formed to ensure proper checks and balances in managing the site. The complete development will span three phases, beginning with the master plan preparation, followed by physical development, and initiatives aimed at elevating the destination to world-class status. The investment value for the project is yet to be determined.
