Temerloh: The police believe that the two victims who were burnt to death after the car they were travelling in was involved in a crash with a fuel tanker at Kilometre 9 of Jalan Temerloh-Triang this afternoon are a mother and son.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Temerloh District Police chief ACP Mohd Nasyim Bahron stated that the driver and passenger of the Perodua Bezza were believed to be a 39-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son, who were pronounced dead at the scene. 'The identities of both victims will be confirmed through comparison of DNA samples from their next-of-kin,' he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Nasyim reported that preliminary investigations found that a tanker carrying 32,000 litres of diesel from Seremban to Temerloh was believed to have skidded into the opposite lane. 'Based on information from the victims' next-of-kin, the car was travelling from Jerantut to Seremban. The collision caused the tanker trailer to crush the car, and both vehicles caught fire,' he added.
The 37-year-old lorry driver managed to escape and sustained only minor injuries. Post-mortem examinations on the victims are scheduled for tomorrow, according to Mohd Nasyim.
