Temenggor Tremor: Perak Awaits Detailed JMG Report – Exco

Perak: The state government is awaiting a detailed report from the Perak Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG) on the weak tremor detected in Temenggor, Gerik last Friday. Perak Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim stated that preliminary information indicated an earthquake below magnitude 5.0 involved minimal ground movement and was not a cause for concern at this time.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teh Kok Lim mentioned, "I am still waiting for the latest report from JMG. Based on the information available, the ground movement was minimal, so there is no need to worry at this point. However, monitoring will continue and we will not take the matter lightly," he told reporters after officiating the MADANI Kita 2026 programme at Dataran Warisan Taiping here today.

Teh said the incident could nevertheless serve as an early warning, adding that available information and past experience indicated minimal ground movement. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported the tremor occurred at 12.06 am at coordinates 5.5 degrees North and 101.3 degrees East, with the epicentre located 9 kilometres (km) northeast of Hulu Perak at a depth of 10 km.
