Teenage Boy Dies After Falling Into Sewer Following Motorcycle Crash

Tampin: A 14-year-old boy was killed after falling into a 10-metre-deep sewer when the motorcycle he was riding pillion on with his brother crashed along Jalan Bunga Tanjung, Tampin, near here last night. Tampin district police chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman stated that the boy was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Tampin Hospital at 11.30 pm, approximately one and a half hours after the incident, while his older brother sustained minor injuries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, further investigations revealed that the victim and his 17-year-old brother were traveling from Tampin town towards their friend's house in Kuala Ina. Upon reaching the location, the Yamaha Y100 motorcycle ridden by his brother is believed to have skidded at a bend before hitting a sewer under construction on the left shoulder of the road, causing the victim to fall into the hole.

The teenager who fell into the sewer was retrieved by firemen and rushed to hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Amiruddien mentioned that anyone with information related to the accident should contact the traffic police station at the Tampin district police headquarters or investigating officer Insp Sritharan at 06-4412502 to assist in the investigation.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem showed that the cause of death was drowning and a basal skull fracture resulting from a motor vehicle accident. The post-mortem examination was conducted for about two hours starting at 10 am today at Tampin Hospital. Amiruddien added that initial screening tests on the rider also found him negative for alcohol or drugs.
