Teachers Encouraged to Embrace Digital Tools for Modern Education: Fahmi

Kuala pilah: Teachers are being urged to embrace digital technology, including virtual learning platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), interactive applications, and open digital resources, to enhance teaching and learning sessions in alignment with contemporary needs. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the evolving role of educators as digital learning architects who guide students towards self-directed and creative learning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted the necessity for students to be tech-savvy, think critically, and act ethically in cyberspace. He noted that the ability to adapt to new technology would be a critical asset for the country’s future. His speech was delivered at the Kuala Pilah District Education Office’s Digital Carnival by Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Infrastructure and Communications) Mano Verabathran, who officiated the event on the minister’s behalf.

Fahmi also addressed the dual nature of the digital world, which, while offering substantial benefits, presents risks and challenges such as Internet-related issues, AI, and cybersecurity threats. He mentioned that the Communications Ministry, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), had launched the Safe Internet Campaign in mid-January to enhance public awareness of online safety and protect against cyber threats.

A significant focus of this campaign is to prevent children under 13 from having social media accounts. For those aged 13 and above, there is an emphasis on responsible and prudent usage. Fahmi indicated that the government is considering raising the minimum age for social media use to 16 to ensure safety and mitigate social issues among children.

Regarding the Digital Carnival, Fahmi described it as more than a competition or exhibition, but rather a platform for teachers and students to effectively and meaningfully integrate technology into the educational process. He praised the initiative and commitment from Kuala Pilah, noting it as a leader in grassroots-level digital educational transformation.
