Kuala Lumpur: The actions of a teacher who allegedly told her students to ‘go back to China’ for not being fluent in Malay are being investigated by the Ministry of Education (MOE), in addition to the police probe. Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that any racist behaviour in schools would never be compromised.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina emphasized that the MOE does not tolerate racism in schools, whether involving teachers, students, or any officers. She stated that an internal investigation is underway and action would be taken based on the findings. This statement was made in response to an audio clip of a female teacher allegedly admitting to making the remarks, which gained traction on social media.
In a separate matter, Fadhlina mentioned that the MOE is collecting data on schools affected by floods to coordinate repair efforts. The ministry aims to ensure schools receive immediate maintenance to foster a conducive learning environment. RM26.4 million has been allocated to repair flood-damaged schools in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah, and Sarawak from December 2024 to January 2025.
Earlier, Fadhlina distributed festive aid to 320 schoolchildren to support their families during Aidilfitri celebrations. Each student received a gift card or shopping voucher worth RM100 and a goodie bag with sponsored items from various companies coordinated by the Putrajaya Unity Education Bureau.
