Penang: A teacher alleged to have hit a pupil at a primary school has been temporarily placed at the District Education Office (PPD). In a statement today, the Penang State Education Department (JPNPP) announced that the decision was made immediately after receiving a complaint from the pupil's family. The move aims to facilitate an investigation while ensuring the welfare of the pupil and maintaining the school environment.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the PPD is conducting a thorough investigation, gathering statements from relevant parties and examining evidence and supporting documents. The department emphasized that the pupil's welfare remains a priority, with psychosocial support and counselling sessions available as needed to assist the pupil during this period.

JPNPP reiterated its commitment to pupil safety, stating that it would not tolerate any behavior compromising pupil welfare. The investigation will be conducted fairly, based on facts and evidence. Further action against the teacher will be determined by the findings and applicable regulations.

Earlier, the Penang Gerakan Public Complaints Bureau called on JPNPP to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the alleged abuse of a nine-year-old pupil at a national-type Chinese primary school (SJKC) in the Barat Daya district. The bureau's chief, Andrew Ooi, reported receiving a complaint on September 8, claiming the pupil suffered bruises on their back and arm, allegedly due to being hit by a teacher.
