Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Army (TDM) has pledged to ensure that trooper Abdul Hamid Talib, who sustained serious injuries at Iskandar Camp, Mersing, Johor, receives optimal treatment and welfare support.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, since the incident on March 12, 2026, Abdul Hamid has been receiving medical care at Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru. He was subsequently transferred to Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital (HAT) and later to the University of Malaya Medical Center (PPUM) for further treatment and rehabilitation.

TDM emphasized that the welfare of its members is a top priority. Since the incident, various forms of assistance and support have been provided to Abdul Hamid and his family. Continuous welfare visits by different government levels are conducted to monitor his health progress and ensure his welfare. This includes preparations for home care after his discharge from the hospital.

The statement from TDM followed a media report on July 27 alleging neglect of Abdul Hamid's welfare. TDM clarified that it had completed an internal investigation into the incident at the camp and taken appropriate action against those responsible, in line with existing regulations. It added that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) had also completed its investigation, with any further actions subject to legal processes.

TDM reiterated its respect for the right of all parties to access information, urging that any statements should be based on verified facts to prevent confusion and protect the sensitivity of members and their families. The organization remains committed to supporting its members' welfare and providing assistance as needed.

Abdul Hamid, a 25-year-old member of the Special Forces Group from the 22nd Commando Regiment, suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull, which left him in a vegetative state. Following the incident, PDRM seized a 72-centimetre cane and arrested two 24-year-old soldiers from the same camp.
