Kuantan: The remains of Corporal Mohd Haswansir Julnasir, a member of the Malaysian Army (TDM) who died during a diving exercise off the coast of Kuantan, Pahang, were laid to rest at the Kampung Gusung Melanta Tesi Cemetery, Pulau Bum Bum, Semporna, Sabah, at 2.30 am today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, TDM stated that the 30-year-old’s body was first sent to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Pahang for a post-mortem before being flown to his hometown. The transportation was facilitated by a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) C-130 aircraft from Kuantan Air Base to Tawau at 7.30 pm yesterday.

TDM announced that a Board of Inquiry will be established to determine the exact cause of the incident and urged the public to avoid speculation while respecting the family’s privacy. Army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, along with all TDM personnel, expressed their condolences to the family, mourning the loss of a skilled soldier.

Corporal Mohd Haswansir was part of the elite Special Boat Squadron (SPK) under the 22nd Commando Regiment of the Grup Gerak Khas (GGK). He went missing at 12.15 pm on Thursday during a training exercise with a closed circuit breathing apparatus (CCBA) in the waters off Dock Port, Kuantan.

A search and rescue operation was launched immediately, and his body was found around 10 am yesterday by a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) surface patrol team. The remains were discovered approximately 500 meters from the incident site, with all diving equipment and his M4 rifle intact.

As a member of an elite unit, Mohd Haswansir was trained in amphibious assaults and maritime infiltration operations. The training exercise was part of ongoing efforts to maintain advanced combat readiness.
