Kuala lumpur: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has reminded taxpayers to submit their e-Filing and settle their tax payments before the deadline to avoid penalties and enforcement action. IRB Corporate Services Department officer Nur Azureen Ismail said the e-Filing season for the Year of Assessment 2025 will begin on March 1, 2026, and taxpayers should make early preparations, including getting their supporting documents ready.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nur Azureen emphasized the importance of submitting e-Filing documents on time and warned against any form of fraud or falsification of documents, as severe penalties could be imposed if discrepancies are found during audits. She also cautioned that failure to pay taxes on time might result in travel restrictions or other legal actions.
Additionally, several enhancements to tax reliefs for the Year of Assessment 2025 were highlighted. The relief for a child with disabilities has been increased from RM6,000 to RM8,000. The sports lifestyle relief has also been raised from RM500 to RM1,000, covering expenses for sports equipment, entry fees to sports facilities, competition participation fees, and gym memberships. This relief is applicable to oneself, spouse, children, and parents.
Furthermore, the scope of medical treatment relief has been expanded to include parents and grandparents residing in Malaysia, with a limit of up to RM8,000 per year. This relief covers expenses for medical and dental treatments, full medical check-ups, vaccinations, and caregiver costs, subject to stipulated conditions.
Taxpayers are encouraged to fully utilize eligible reliefs and rebates and refer to Public Ruling 7/2025 on the IRB's official website to avoid errors in claims. Nur Azureen concluded by reminding taxpayers that their contributions are vital for the shared future.
