‘Tangkap Azam Baki’ Rally: Police To Call Up Organisers, Participants Over Firecracker Incident

Kuala lumpur: Police will call up the organisers and some participants of the 'Tangkap Azam Baki' gathering to assist in investigations into a fireworks incident in front of the SOGO Complex here, which caused a disruption this afternoon. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said investigations are being conducted to identify the cause of the incident and those responsible. "At the start of the gathering, there was some commotion involving the lighting of firecrackers, but no injuries or property damage were reported," he told a press conference at the scene.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the case is being investigated under Sections 6 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, adding that police will complete their investigations by calling up all relevant individuals, including witnesses. "We will call up all parties involved in the gathering and any witnesses who saw the lighting of the firecrackers to assist in investigations," he said.

ACP Sazalee also mentioned that police do not rule out the possibility of sabotage, but the matter is still under investigation and cannot be confirmed due to insufficient evidence at this stage. He noted that police also found an unexploded bundle of firecrackers at the scene.

"So far, we have not been able to identify who supplied or was responsible for the firecrackers, and investigations are ongoing," he stated, stressing that they were ordinary firecrackers and advising the public not to speculate.

The gathering commenced at about 3 pm in front of SOGO before participants marched to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. It concluded at around 5.35 pm, involving about 300 participants. Meanwhile, Sazalee reported that approximately 200 personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters and related teams were deployed to ensure security throughout the gathering.
